The Board of Governors (BOG) superseding the Medical Council of India (MCI) is considering to amend the regulations for the payment of stipend to MBBS interns. This was a long pending demand from almost all the states which is finally getting implemented.
The Board of Governors (BOG) have issued a public notice on January 25, requesting all the stakeholders to give their comment and suggestions within 15 days of the notice. The notice states: “All the candidate pursuing compulsory rotation internship at the institution from which MBBS course was completed, shall be paid stipend on par with the stipend being paid to the interns of the state government. Medical Institution/ Central Government Institution in the state/ Union Territory where the institution is located.”
All those who have any concerns are requested to give their comments/ suggestions within 15 days to bring the amendment in the regulation for payment of the stipend to the interns. The step is being appreciated by the Medical student associations all throughout the country as well as the resident doctors association.
All India Foreign medical graduate association on the other hand is demanding the same implementation to the FMGs doing internship in India. “Forget about Stipend, we are being asked to pay to the hospitals in tens of thousands to get our internship done” Said Dr Raghu Ram Executive member AIFMGA
