Supreme court: Writ petition against MCI for DNB Equivalence

Association of DNB doctors under Sankalp charitable trust filed a writ petition in Supreme court of India for DNB equivalence with MD/ MS. On 5th June 2015 Medical Council of India issued a Notification degrading DNB degree issued by NBE and desires 3 more years of Junior residency to be treated equivalently to the MD/ MS.

In last few years Students preferred DNB over Non-clinical MD/ MS and for the branch of choice. Also, DNB has no reservation or Bond making it more preferable than MD/ MS. As per NBE data DNB board speciality seats is around 7000. These DNB pass outs were largely filling the gap of teaching posts in medical colleges putting the medical colleges at less vulnerable position in hands of MCI inspectors.

“MCI want these private colleges to remain vulnerable and the deficit of faculty so they keep on changing the faulty definition and goal post so that they can be blackmailed and extorted, If DNB is allowed for Superspeciality degrees why not Teaching posts. Moreover, MCI issued this notice without approval of Ministry and hence its Illegal. We are also demanding Action for act of Subordination by MCI secretary” Said one of the members of ADD

As per information apart from MCI and MOHFW, the State governments of Maharastra and Tamil Nadu are also respondents of the case as they also have issued separate recruitment notifications downgrading DNB.
