CMC Ludhiana; Assault on Doctors, One arrested

Police have arrested one person in relation to the assault doctors and staff of the Christian Medical College (CMC) was attacked by the kin of a patient who died at the hospital. On February 22 at around 6:30 pm, relatives of a deceased patient became enraged and damaged hospital property and attacked the doctors and staff present in the pediatric ward at the CMCH, Ludhiana. Following this, a complaint was filed by the CMC administration and doctors at the local police station. Hundreds of junior doctors from CMC held a peaceful protest against this physical assault on doctors on and asked the local administration and police authorities to arrest the culprits. Upon this police came into swift action and registered a case against the culprits.

The CMC hospital also received a strong support from Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ludhiana branch. Police has taken strict action against under The Punjab protection of Medicare service persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of violence and damage to property) Act 2008 by which the crime is punishable with imprisonment up to 1 year or fine up to Rs 50,000 or both.
