After the incident on Friday night, The Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association on Saturday staged a protest at Government Medical College (GMC) over an assault on a resident doctor. The protest was planned in advance to oppose the proposed National Medical Commission but with the attack taking place a day before, the protesters condemned the attackers and urged the administration to ensure safety and security of doctors.

According to information, parents of a child had turned up for his treatment but they felt that the staff on duty were not paying proper attention to the kid. So they allegedly manhandled a resident doctor. Dr. Mridu Gupta, president of the association, said, “Repeated incidents of assault on doctors are reported. The government has failed to check the problem. Doctors try their best to save every patient but limitations in the medical field sometimes result in deaths.”The association stated that it opposed the proposed NMC bill which would replace the Medical Council of India. The protest was also backed by students of the college who expressed solidarity with the doctors and the teaching faculty.
