Resident doctors of prestigious Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad went on a flash strike after one among them was chased and thrashed by relatives of patients on Tuesday Night. This is 5th news of Attack on Doctors coming this week.

According to the complaint made to police Md. Irfan was allegedly attacked by relatives of a 46-year-old patient identified as Aruna who died during a treatment.

Aruna, a resident of Uppal, was admitted in NIMS four days ago after having previously been treated in a private hospital. “Her health continued to deteriorate and the respiration problem persisted in spite of a lung transplant,” said Dr Srinivasan, former President of the Junior Doctors’ Association.

He further stated that the agitated relatives of the patients couldn’t contain their emotions and attacked his colleague, Dr Irfan, a resident doctor from the Department of Rheumatology. She died due to multiple organ failures on Tuesday night.

Soon after doctors declared her dead, her relatives started arguing with doctors and alleged negligence and further chased resident doctor Md. Irfan and attacked him.

Angered over the attack on one of their colleague, NIMS Resident Doctors Association (RDA) boycotted their duties and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.

A case at Punjagutta police station has been registered.

The entire incident has been captured in the CCTV installed in the hospital premise. The police have assured the protesting doctors that they will verify the footage and take the necessary action on attackers.

Speaking to TNM, Sub-Inspector D Srikanth Goud said that they have filed cases under IPC section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 331(voluntarily causing grievous hurt to extort confession), 448 (punishment for house-trespass) and also under section 4 of Telangana Medico legal services and Medico Act.
